We understand that divorce can seem like a complicated process, but it does not have to be. Attorney Paul B. Goldhamer, the head of our divorce and matrimonial law department, will ensure that you transition into this new phase of your life as easily as possible.

What Do I Need to Know About Divorce?

A divorce consultation consists of the following simple three stage process:

  • First, you will come to our office and meet with a paralegal to review preliminary matters. Please bring detailed information concerning your finances, such as income, expenses, assets and debts. The more information you bring to the meeting, the more productive your later meeting with Mr. Goldhamer will be.
  • Second, you will watch a brief film explaining the basics of divorce proceedings. You will learn about the various ways of going about a divorce. Some divorces are collaborative and others require extensive litigation. In addition, you will learn about all of the issues that are relevant to a divorce, such as custody of children, child support, alimony, division of property and debts. The video is approximately 20 minutes long.
  • Third, you will attend a half-hour meeting with Paul Goldhamer. This is the only stage of the consultation process in which you will be charged an attorney fee. Mr. Goldhamer will inform you of all of your rights and liabilities. Child custody, debts, assets and property division are commonly contentious issues, and Mr. Goldhamer will review your situation and offer you options for moving forward. You will walk away from your meeting with Goldhamer with a clear idea of your rights and obligations moving forward.
  • After meeting with Mr. Goldhamer, you will have the option of retaining our firm for your divorce, child support or child custody matter. You can take as much time as you’d like when deciding when and how to move forward with your family law case.
