The federal and state employment discrimination laws protect people who are in certain classes from being discriminated against or treated differently. Those classes are based on sex, age, color, race, national origin, disability, and if you have veteran status. Some of the state laws also protect people against discrimination resulting from gender orientation, as well. Those would be the categories, generally.
