What are the duties of a class representative?

The duties of a class representative are to represent the other people in the class to the best of their ability. That includes proving documents to counsel, so that they can demonstrate the claim. If need be, answering questions proposed by the defendants, and appearing for a deposition if necessary, staying in touch with counsel. A class representative can’t settle their individual claim without settling those of the other class members as well. It is an important function in the process of class action litigation.
