J.M. Smucker initiated the recall after receiving reports of cats having adverse and even fatal reactions after consuming the contents of 5.5 oz cans of “Natural Balance Ultra Premium Chicken & Liver Paté Formula.” It is recommended that pet owners contact their veterinarian immediately if their cat experiences any of the following side effects after ingesting this food:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Salivating excessively
- Poor vision and/or constricted pupils
- Diarrhea
Even more severe side effects linked with the recalled batch of Natural Balance cat food include:
- Trouble walking
- Tremors and shaking muscles
- Irregular heartbeat
- Constricted breathing
- Cardiac or respiratory failure that could be fatal
