The firm, on behalf of class members, has filed Class Action lawsuits in
the U.S. District Court of New Jersey against the manufacturers and distributors
of the Spot-On pet flea and tick products: Frontline, Vectra 3D, Ultra Guard, K9
Advantix, Sentry Pro, Bio Spot, Adams, Zodiac, Sentry Pro XFC, Sergeant’s flea
and tick Powder, Hartz flea bombs, and Hartz flea collar (“defective products”)
alleging that they cause serious illnesses, including neurological problems, or
death to dogs and cats upon application and that the defective products contain
inadequate warnings. The lawsuits allege that the defective products caused
pets to become ill, including central nervous system disorders, rashes, itching,
hair loss, appetite loss requiring veterinarian visits, medications, hospitalizations
and, in some cases, death. On April 21, 2009 the EPA issued an advisory citing
a large increase in adverse reactions from the use of these products. The
Defendants failed to provide adequate warnings for their products. The
manufacturers sued are: Bayer Healthcare LLC, Hartz Mountain Corporation,
Sumitomo Corporation of America, Summit VetPharm LLC, Merial Limited,
Merck & Co. Inc., Sanofi-Aventis U.S., Inc., Sergeant’s Pet Care Products, Inc.,
Farnam Companies, Inc.
