According to CBS News, a nurse was indicted last month on criminal charges after he allegedly beat a disabled resident at a Bronx nursing home.
CBS News reported that Lennox Seymour, 46, of Nanuet, was charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, which carries up to a four-year prison sentence. Seymour is a licensed LPN and worked at Split Rock Nursing Home, located at 3525 Baychester Avenue, in the Bronx.
According to investigators, on February 12, 2012, Seymour allegedly was caught on video following a 55-year-old disabled man into a dining hall, pushing him against a wall and punching him in the neck.
Investigators said that a struggle ensued between the men, with both of them falling on a floor. Seymour allegedly walked away from the incident and left the resident behind, on the floor with injuries to his neck and buttocks.
Seymour was also charged with falsifying a report to the nursing home. He claimed that the resident kicked and punched him. After the nursing home reviewed the video of the incident, it fired Seymour.
“The defendant, a licensed caregiver, was entrusted with the protection and well-being of a disabled nursing home resident. He violated that trust by attacking his own patient,” Attorney General Eric Scheniderman said in a release. “My office will punish those who commit crimes against our most vulnerable neighbors.”
