BMW and Infiniti Announce Vehicle Recalls

According to the New York Times, BMW has recalled nearly 77,000 vehicles, while Infiniti has recalled 23 Q50 sedans, following an issue with electronic sensors.

The Times reported that the BMW recall stems from a mat in the front passenger seat that may fail, disabling the vehicle’s front air bags.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the BMW recall affects “2006 325i, 325xi, 330i and 330xi sedans and 325xi sport wagons, 2007 328i, 328xi, 335i and 335xi sedans and 328i and 328xi sport wagons, 2006-7 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi and 550i sedans and 530xi sport wagons, 2006 760i sedans, 2006-7 750i, 750Li, and 760Li sedans and 2006 X5 sport utility vehicles.”

The Times reported that BMW had a similar recall in 2008, which prompted an investigation by NHTSA. The company said that it is not aware of any injuries related to the issue.

The Infiniti recall effects 23 2014 Q50 sedans, which the manufacturer said may experience issues with a new direct adaptive steering system that may fail in cold weather.

Vehicle recalls should be taken seriously, as a product failure could lead to death and personal injuries sustained by drivers and other people on roadways. Automakers and auto part manufacturers need to be held liable when their defective products falter, costing consumers money and time. This can be done through a class action lawsuit, allowing all consumers who have been affected to receive compensation.
