Jimmy John’s Data Breach: Was Your Credit Card Information Exposed?

As we have reported multiple times over the last couple of months, lax security by companies when it comes to securing data can lead to widespread consequences including identity theft. Photo of legal document

Cases of identity theft are why class action lawsuits are important when it comes to holding companies responsible for failing to protect customer data.

These lawsuits can protect consumers who suffer losses at the hands of a company, as individuals who have sustained damages in similar situations can sue on behalf of themselves and all others who have been wronged by the negligence of the company.

Recently, the National Law Journal reported that a person proposed a class action lawsuit against Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches after the company announced a data breach in September.

According to the lawsuit, the company first announced the data breach on September 24, even though the suit alleges that it learned of the breach on July 30.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois, where Jimmy John’s is based, alleges the company violated statutes that require that the disclosure of security breaches be made in the “most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay.”

How Can I Speak to a Lawyer About a Class Action Lawsuit?

If you ate at a Jimmy John’s recently, you should check your credit card statements to see if you were the victim of any fraudulent charges. Additionally, if you sustained complications because of this breach, you should contact our attorneys.

It should be noted that in a similar data breach, our attorneys recently filed a lawsuit against Home Depot, which negligently exposed the identities of up to 56 million cardholders who shopped at the home improvement store.
