According to Bloomberg News, a former iPhone user has filed a class action lawsuit against Apple, claiming that the company’s messaging system interfered with the delivery of texts after she switched over to an Android device.
The news service reported that iMessage, the system used by Apple users to send text messages, would not deliver incoming messages to the plaintiff’s new Samsung Electronics Co. phone running on Google Inc.’s Android operating system.
This is apparently becoming an issue for many former iPhone users, as customers have to tell contacts to change their settings or contact Apple technical workers to fix the problem in order to receive messages.
According to the lawsuit, people who switch from Apple to non-Apple brands are “penalized and unable to obtain the full benefits of their wireless-service contracts.”
Tech industry insiders have stated that this could be a potentially large lawsuit, as users send an estimated 450 billion iMessages each month.
