According to the Rockland County Times, a driver involved in a West Nyack car accident was briefly trapped in a vehicle on the New York State Thruway on January 22.

The Times reported that the two-car accident shut down the highway for several hours near the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack. According to the paper, three people were injured and taken to Nyack Hospital following the accident that took place at about noon.

West Nyack Fire Chief Brian Ulrich said that it appeared that the two cars collided after one car hit the center median and was subsequently hit by an oncoming vehicle. A third vehicle also sustained slight damage in the crash.

According to the Times, about 17 volunteers from the West Nyack Fire Department were at the accident scene, along with State Police, Rockland Paramedics and crews from Nyack Community Ambulance Corps, Nanuet Ambulance Corps and Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps.

The driver of one of the two cars directly involved in the crash was trapped inside his or her vehicle. Firefighters had to remove the doors of the vehicle in order to extract the driver from the vehicle.
