Our Support of the YWCA: Building a Stronger Bergen County

Eliminating Racism Empowering Women

By Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C.News

Since 1920, the YWCA of Bergen County, New Jersey has tirelessly advanced its mission of empowering women and families, supporting social justice, and eliminating racism. Not only is the YWCA the leading destination for health and fitness programs, but it also operates Bergen County’s only Sexual Violence Resource Center, healingSPACE.

Here at Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, our personal injury lawyers are proud to support the YWCA and the important work they do. Through our legal work, we often see first-hand the harsh consequences of social injustice, and we’re constantly looking for better ways of serving our community. With our sponsorship of the YWCA, we’re privileged to contribute to the strength of Bergen County.

The mission of the YWCA of Bergen County

Girls, women, and families throughout Bergen County have long relied on the YWCA to provide a safe, supportive space. The YWCA seeks to give women the opportunities they deserve to grow more resilient, learn new skills, and give back to help others succeed.

The YWCA of Bergen County is proud to take part in the national campaign, Stand Against Racism. It aims to build connections among advocates for social justice and to raise awareness about institutional and structural racism. The YWCA of Bergen County’s Racial Justice initiatives work to protect constitutional rights and fight against racism through public education, community outreach, legislative advocacy, and training.

Another central mission of the YWCA is healingSPACE, which offers support and counseling to survivors of sexual violence and their families. Sponsors of the YWCA contribute to the free and confidential 24/7 crisis intervention hotline. At healingSPACE, trained advocates guide survivors through every step of the medical and legal processes. HealingSPACE also works toward prevention of sexual violence through community awareness activities and educational programs.

Opportunities available at the YWCA

Thanks to the support of individual and corporate sponsors, the YWCA is able to offer a full menu of services, including child care for members who are using the fitness facilities. The YWCA also offers before and after school programs that seek to support kids’ self-esteem.

YWCA members have access to an incredible diversity of fitness classes, wellness programs, aquatics activities (including lifeguard training), and empowerment initiatives. At the YWCA, families throughout Bergen County can also connect with volunteer opportunities to give back to their communities.

Upcoming YWCA events to attend

At the YWCA of Bergen County, there are always plenty of ways to get involved. In May 2017 alone, women can attend a self-defense workshop, enjoy a synchronized swimming show, or participate in a body awareness wellness program. And on the evening of May 10th, the YWCA is celebrating extraordinary women at the Walking the Talk Gala.

Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman’s team of personal injury, family, and estate planning lawyers is dedicated to improving quality of life for families in our community through effective and compassionate legal advocacy services.
