According to CBS New York, a construction worker fell to his death in a scaffolding accident in Midtown NYC on April 2.
The station reported that the accident occurred around 2:10 p.m. around the Dream Hotel, at 210 W. 55th St., near Broadway.
The victim was allegedly working on the façade of the building at the time of the accident and fell about 80 feet through an area that was unprotected due to the removal of planks, the Department of Buildings told CBS.
Shocked witnesses saw the accident occur. “Horrifying, and really, something I can’t unsee, unfortunately,” a witness told the station.
The worker’s body reportedly landed on a portion of scaffolding directly above the main entrance of the hotel. Many witnesses came down to cover the body of the victim following the accident before authorities arrived, out of respect.
“It was a horrifying sight. The body was just crumpled up on top of the awning up there,” the same witness told CBS. “It was really awful.”
The network reported, “The Department of Buildings issued a full stop work order, and a violation for failure to safeguard persons or property affected by construction operations.”
The victim reportedly worked for Alpha General Contractor of New York.
