GEICO, the second largest auto insurer in the United States, announced a data breach incident involving confidential information of an unknown number of current and former customers.

The Maryland-based company began notifying customers on April 9, 2021 that between January 21, 2021 and March 1, 2021, hackers obtained unauthorized access to customers’ driver’s license numbers through GEICO’s online sales system on their website and that this information is being used to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits in former and current customers’ name.
