As reported by NorthJersey.com, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating a car accident from Saturday, May 22, 2021, that left one pedestrian dead.

A Motor Vehicle Struck a Pedestrian

The accident occurred at around 3:40am on Saturday, May 22, 2021, on Route 17 South in Lodi, just north of the Route 80 interchange. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella told reporters that a car struck a pedestrian near 240 Route 17 South.

The Lodi Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident, but, unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Though the name of the deceased has not been released, authorities did reveal that they were 38 years old.

Despite earlier reports that the accident happened in Hackensack, it did indeed occur in Lodi as Route 17 South closed, and all traffic was re-routed at Gregg Street while the crash was cleared. The road was opened again around noon that day.

The Cause of the Accident is Still Under Investigation

NorthJersey.com also reported that the accident is still being investigated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Chief Jason Love, as well as the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Anthony Cureton.

How Can the Victim’s Family Get Justice?

Sadly, people like this victim die in car accidents every day. Besides criminal charges, how can the families of victims such as these get justice and compensation for their pain, loss, and suffering?

While a personal injury claim won’t bring back the deceased or erase the pain or loss, it can go a long way towards easing the financial burden of that loss for the victim’s families and making the responsible party accountable for the loss.
