Recently, CNN reported that oil baron Harold Hamm will pay his ex-wife nearly $1 billion because of a divorce settlement. Hamm’s ex-wife will reportedly be paid $995.5 million total, with a third to be paid by the end of 2014 and the rest to be made in monthly payments. Hamm was married to his ex-wife for 26 years.
The judge overseeing the Hamm case also placed a lien on 20 million shares of Hamm’s company, Continental Resources (CLR). Hamm has an estimated net worth of $20.2 billion.
In addition to the spousal support payments, Hamm’s ex-wife will receive $25 million in assets, which include multiple homes. Court documents indicated that Hamm’s ex-wife was important to his public speaking efforts, as she would accompany him on trips. She was also the head of Continental’s crude oil marketing department.
The couple has two adult daughters who will not be affected financially by the case.
