Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C., is currently investigating American Addiction Centers, Inc., (“AAC”), regarding a data breach affecting the personal information and protected health information of approximately 422,424 patients. AAC, a Tennessee-based health organization, is the largest network of rehabilitation facilities in the country, providing inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment through a large network of rehabilitation centers in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Nevada, Rhode Island, and Texas.
On or about September 26, 2024, AAC discovered that it was experiencing a cybersecurity attack. AAC investigated the incident, and on October 3, 2024, concluded that an unauthorized party infiltrated and maintained access to their network from September 23 until September 26, 2024. After reviewing the impacted data, AAC confirmed that a large amount of patient data was extracted from the network. On December 23, 2024, AAC notified the Maine Attorney General that the following sensitive information had been compromised:
- Full names
- Phone numbers and addresses
- Dates of birth
- Social Security numbers
- Medical record number
- Health insurance information
