According to the Charlotte Observer, a North Carolina judge ordered the arrest last week of former professional wrestling champion Ric Flair, who was held in contempt for not paying his estranged wife more than $32,000 in spousal support.
The Observer reported that Flair, whose birth name is Richard Fliehr, was ordered to pay $4,000 a month to Jacqueline Beems, after they separated last year. The money was supposed to be used to pay for Beems’ car payment, health insurance and legal fees.
Court documents show that if Flair pays the money he owes Beems, he will be able to avoid jail time. “The reason I didn’t pay my ex-wife the 32 grand is because my son died and I was in the hospital for a month,” Flair told the Observer. “I was in the hospital for a month with a blood clot. I didn’t go to work for three months.”
Reid Fliehr, 25, was found dead on March 29 in a hotel room from a drug overdose. Flair and Beems were married in November 2009 and divorced in June 2012, when Beems accused her husband of committing “acts of marital misconduct,” according to the Observer. Flair denied the allegations.
