Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson, who was jailed last month for contempt of court after slapping his attorney on the back during a hearing, is reportedly spending more than $16,000 on child support payments.

According to NESN, Johnson, who has not played a down in the NFL since a divorce from realty television star Evelyn Lozada, is spending $46,000 more per month than he has in income. Johnson reportedly spends $16,000 on child support payments, about $9,000 a month for his mortgage, $2,500 on food, $2,650 on car expenses, $3,500 on clothes, $5,000 on entertainment, $1,000 on his pets and $250 on personal grooming.

No NFL teams have shown interest in signing Johnson this offseason, according to NESN. Johnson has four children and allegedly makes $3,000 per month.

While $16,000 per month for child support may sound astronomical, payments can be modified based on a “substantial change in circumstances”. Johnson must demonstrate that since the original court orders were entered, circumstances surrounding his income have changed, leaving him unable to make payments based on the higher income calculation.
