Recently, Fox News reported that several former Sony employees are contemplating filing a class action lawsuit over a data breach that has significantly affected the company. Email chains that include personal contact information, as well as information like Social Security numbers, have allegedly been shared by the hackers involved over the internet.
According to Fox News, several former employees who had their private details exposed during the hack are investigating a class action case, as they believe gross negligence on behalf of the company may have played a role in their information being made public.
“We’re all worried about our identities, privacy and our families and Sony so far hasn’t done much to address the situation,” one former Sony worker, whose passport, visa, social security number and contracts have been leaked, told Fox.
The former employees have reportedly started a Facebook page enabling them to exchange information about potential litigation. We will keep you updated on any potential Sony proceedings in future blogs.
Keep in mind, class action lawsuits protect people who may have suffered losses and/or injuries at the hands of a company (in this case an employer). In these cases, people can sue on behalf of themselves and all others who have been wronged by the acts of a defendant.
