Head-on car accidents often have disastrous outcomes. Yahoo! recently reported that approximately 360 people are killed each year in wrong-way collisions. In addition to death, these accidents can result in serious personal injuries like broken bones, spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries. 
Many of these accidents are avoidable—common causes include driving while under the influence of alcohol, distracted driving and the failure of car parts or vehicle defects.
Recently, a head-on crash in Haverstraw injured several people. According to the Rockland County Times,the accident occurred on July 6 on Route 9W, approximately 500 feet north of the Town of Clarkstown border.
A press release by the Haverstraw Police Department indicated that an Audi driven by Ordane Brown, 25, of Bridgeport, Connecticut was traveling south on Route 9W and crossed over the double yellow line, striking a 2008 Subaru driven by a Nyack man, which caused the Audi to lose control and strike a 2001 Jeep driven by a New City man.
The accident caused several passengers to suffer broken bones and one victim suffered a head injury. Brown was charged with aggravated vehicle assault, driving while intoxicated (DWI) and reckless driving. The accident remains under investigation.
