Bergen County is the most populated county in New Jersey, with a population of more than 905,116, according to the 2010 United States Census. The county is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area, with the 20th highest per capita income in the country.

Bergen County is located in the northeastern corner of New Jersey and is bordered by Rockland County, New York, Manhattan and the Bronx in New York City, as well as by Westchester County, New York. The county has a total area of 246.671 square miles.

Popular roadways in Bergen County include the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, I-80 and I-287. US Highways 46, 202, 9, 9W, and New Jersey state highways 4, 17, 3, 120, 208, and the Palisades Interstate Parkway also serve Bergen County. The George Washington Bridge provides access over the Hudson River to the Upper Manhattan section of New York City, and is the world’s busiest motor vehicle bridge. Access to New York City is also available through the Lincoln Tunnel in Hudson County. NJ Transit services the county.

Most commercial airline travelers use the Newark Liberty International Airport in Essex County to get access to Bergen County.

Attractions and Colleges

Bergen County is the home of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Felician College, Saint Peter’s College, Ramapo College and Bergen Community College.

The county also hosts MetLife Stadium, which replaced Giants Stadium and is the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets of the National Football League. MetLife Stadium will host Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. Other attractions include the Izod Center, the New Jersey Naval Museum, the Aviation Hall of Fame and Museum of New Jersey, the Bergen Museum of Art & Science, the Meadowlands Environment Center, the Tenafly Nature Center and the Maywood Station Museum.
