The attorneys at Kantrowitz, Goldhamer & Graifman, P.C. are excited to announce that Barry S. Kantrowitz has been appointed to fill the Rockland County Legislature vacancy in District #5, made possible by the departure of Ed Day, who was recently sworn in as County Executive.

In her motion nominating Kantrowitz for the legislature seat, Harriet Cornell the outgoing Chair of the Legislature said “Barry has demonstrated his love for Rockland through his community- involvement and . . . .  with his outgoing and friendly personality and his expressed intentions to reach out to all the people of L.D. 5, he will be a wonderful representative for them. His legal background, expertise and experience working with various ethnic groups in Rockland will make him a great asset to the Legislature.”

In a show of bipartisan support, the Legislature voted unanimously 15-0 to appoint Kantrowitz to the vacancy.

In his acceptance speech at the legislature, Kantrowitz, who has lived in Rockland since 1967 and is known locally and nationally for his work on behalf of JCC Rockland, said that he understands the needs of Rockland residents and that he will work to make sure the services the people want are delivered in an efficient and cost effective manner. As a product of the East Ramapo public school system, Kantrowitz told LoHud.com that he would work with legitimately concerned families and state representatives to assure that students in East Ramapo get the same quality public education that he received.

Kantrowitz will serve by appointment until the next general election in November 2014 at which time he intends to run for the remainder of Mr. Day’s term.
