According to TIME, people who utilize social media applications like Twitter are more likely to be in relationships that end in divorce due to infidelity. divorce

The news source reported that an online journal, Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, published a story recently indicating that people who are active on Twitter are more likely to be involved in the type of confrontations that may lead to infidelity and divorce.

In a study, researchers reportedly surveyed Twitter users of all ages and asked them questions about usage, including about how often they send out Tweets and reply to messages.

The survey found that active Twitter use could lead to “greater amounts of Twitter-related conflict among romantic partners, which in turn leads to infidelity, breakup and divorce.”

“If high amounts of Twitter use does, indeed, lead to high amounts of Twitter-related conflict (i.e., arguments pertaining to a partner’s Twitter use, etc.) among romantic partners, it is plausible to speculate that such conflict could lead to unfavorable relationship outcomes, such as cheating, breakup, or divorce,” Russell B. Clayton, the study’s author and doctoral student at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, said.
