According to the Associated Press, a class action lawsuit has been filed against a Red Robin restaurant after customers in Springfield, Missouri were exposed to hepatitis A. 
The news outlet reported that the Springfield-Greene County Health Department said recently that about 5,000 people who ate at the restaurant between May 8 and May 16 might have been exposed to the liver disease.
As a result, the department has had to offer free vaccination shots to patrons.
A couple, Donald and Melinda Call, who ate at the restaurant with their children on May 9, filed a lawsuit on behalf of anyone who visited the restaurant while an employee with hepatitis was working there.
The couple is reportedly asking the court, located in Greene County, Missouri, to decide what would be fair and appropriate as far as damages are concerned.
In the lawsuit, the couple claims that Red Robin was negligent in allowing an employee with the illness to work. In addition, they claim the company was negligent by not requiring employees to be vaccinated for the illness.

This case is truly shocking, as hepatitis A can be spread through close contact with an infectious person. This means that not only did Red Robin possibly put customers at risk of contacting the illness, but also put other employees at risk. The disease can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, yellow skin, fever, abdominal pain and acute liver failure.
